    Hard not to love Skåne

I have spent a little over eight years of my life living in Helsingborg at the northwestern part Skåne. During that time I didn´t appreciate the countryside as much as I do now. When I could see the beautiful landscape every day, I simply didn´t see it. Now days whenever I have the opportunity to spend some days in Skåne I just love it. The southeast part of Skåne (called Österlen) is well famous for the landscape that contains a mix of rolling hills and endless fields of everything from corn to wheat. No wonder that this is the center for all Swedish handcrafting artists.

    Bjärsjölagårds limestone quarry

This day we made a short trip to an old limestone quarry not far from the house. The quarry was last used sometime around 1900 and all traces from the activities at that time was long gone, except the now water filled hole in the ground. The weather that day was windy but the walls of the quarry and the surrounding woodland made the perfect wind protection!

    Bjärsjölagårds limestone quarry

This is apparently what´s hiding under our feet. Layers and layers of limestone. I think that this place is special though. Most of the ground here in Skåne I think contains just gravel, sand and soil.

    wood anemone

Thousands of vitsippor (wood anemone) covered the ground painting it with a fresh green tone sparkled with white stars. To me this is a safe sign that the spring is finally here!

    kids at the slopes

The kids where running up and down the slopes at the side of the quarry. On the ground there were a lot a fossils of old sea shells, plants and other strange things. My youngest one made what I thought was the victory sign, but in this picture I can clearly see that it’s not, rock on girl!

Usually takes a while to figure out why this photo looks a little bit strange. Can you figure it out?

    Easter in Skåne 2014

Time again to publish some new photos. I have been terrible bad at updating the blog but other things has always come between me and the blog. You know, busy doing nothing… Anyway, here comes the first post from Skåne.
During the Easter the whole family went down to Skåne to spend some time during the kid’s holiday. The weather during Easter 2014 will be remembered as one of the best ever! Lovely sunshine and up to +20. Not bad at all considered that last Easter there was snow on the ground… So armed with the Leica M9 we went out in the sunshine.

    birches in skåne

This is taken in the woods not far from the summerhouse in the small “town” of Tolånga. You probably wouldn’t call it a town, more like a village since there are only around twenty houses or so.

    ella picking stensöta

Ella is picking something that in Sweden is called Harmynta. I do not know the English name but it is a small white flower and the leaves is eatable and taste a little sour.

    stensöta

I tried to take a closer picture so that someone might recognize the plant and send me the correct name.

    bokskog skåne

Just by looking at the trees here makes me see treehouses everywhere. How cool wouldn’t it be to have a treehouse high up in those trees! Imagine climbing up there, bring coffee the camera and look when the sun goes down. Must be more the spectacular!

    biches

More down to earth and definitely clo    ser to the ground the birches glows green in the sunlight. Good news for everyone loving the spring and bad news for all the allergic people out there, including me…

    More posts are comming soon!

The winter is getting a grip of Sweden

There photos were taken in Skåne during March 2013 so it´s just a reminder of things to come. Anyway, this year there is almost no snow and the snow thrower is parked quietly in the garage… The only ones complaining is the kids…

Some of you locals might recognize this road? Lövestads landsväg is the name of the road and it will today represent the typical winter in Skåne.

This is taken at Mossby strand. This is where we spend our summer vacation, at least when it´s not raining…

This could have been any sunny summer day, but it is not… Hard wind and under zero on the thermometer.

    Summer in Skåne

Once again I´m in Skåne for a quick vacation with the family. This time the weather was on our side and the sun shined for a whole week!

I went out a couple of times to take some shoots but it was almost too warm to be wandering around. Anyway, here are some of the shoots. These are taken at Ales stenar, a place well worth a visit!

    Que to Ales stenar

There were a lot of tourists hiking in the beach and on the high cliff side. Almost everyone was stopping at this information sign to read the latest information regarding Ales stenar. The guy on the left side however was in some way involved in the studying or exploration of Ales stenar and by the looks of it, nothing new will be discovered within the next couple of years…

    Ales stenar

This is Ales stenar (Ales stones). The stone formation is almost 70 meter long and consists of 67 large rocks. No one actually knows what it is apart from being stones placed in a boat shaped formation. Some theories are that it has been uses as a calendar and some that it is a burial ground.

    Looking out over the sea

Looking out on the sea from a 30 meter high place is quite impressive.

Heading of in to the horizon

Heading out to sea in this weather must be really nice!

On the slopes everyone was really struggling not to fall, except the sheep’s.

    Stenshuvud nationalpark

This day was spent at a small beach near Stenshuvud nationalpark on the east side of Skåne.

Sometimes you find people taking pictures of the most unusual things…

…like other people taking their pictures…

The sand, sea and sky justs melts together.

  • Southern part of sweden

    Southern part of sweden

Just spent some time with my family down in the southern part  of Sweden, Skåne. Skåne is really the home of green and golden crop fields. In the evening when the last sun hit the fields is sometime magical. So if you got some to over to spend in Sweden it´s well worth the trip!

In the evening the birds try to find shelter for the night.

I like patterns. So you probably find the pattern to be a reoccurring pattern among my pictures here at the blog…

This is what soon (might be a little bit more than soon) will become a new apple field. Skåne is famous for its apples and has several producers in the area.

  • Spring finally arrives to Sweden

    Spring finally arrives to Sweden

And so at last it arrives to the southern part of Sweden. All the snow has finally gone and I´m looking forward to a warm and long summer.

The ground is covered with the flower Anemone nemorosa that has the nickname Vitsippa. I looked it up on the web and in other countries the name Wood anemone, Windflower, Thimbleweed and Smell fox is used.

Smell fox, who uses that name on a flower like this?

The cat doesn’t look that happy.

The water is still cold as ice but just looking at this picture makes me feel the warm sand.

Looks like the old landing pier got carried away by the ice and storms during the winter.

  • Paragliding at ales stenar

    Paragliding at ales stenar

Paragliding by the southern cost of Sweden.

This is something I always wanted to try but never had the chance to do it, paragliding. It looks so calm and peaceful, just floating around in mid air with the birds.

These shoots were taken at Ale stenar at the southern part of Sweden. The terrain there is perfect for paragliders that want to take off from land and then just float on the airstream pushed upwards by the cliff sloping down towards the sea.

The air rushes in from the sea and when it hits the cliff wall it raises and creates the perfect up wind that the paragliders could hang on to and glide through the sky for hours.

    Alone in the sky.

    The perfect human seagull.
